He began his career at HVL Metaalbewerking in May 2017 and has since become a versatile force within the organization. What began as an engineer quickly evolved into a multifaceted role, where he became a project engineer, project manager, and technical engineer—in other words, a vital link between technology and sales.

“Today the group has four entities,” Tom explains. “Topa Packaging in the Netherlands, Topa Packaging in Belgium, Topa Institute and Topa Thermal. In our Topa Institute, which celebrates its fortieth anniversary this year, we investigate, among other things, how we can generate less waste and reduce costs. Thanks to our own development, testing and research center, we guide our customers in their search for fewer CO₂ emissions, less use of raw materials and lower costs in their logistics process. Our international branch Topa Thermal focuses on the development and production of insulating packaging, mainly for the pharmaceutical industry.” Sustainable packaging in practice Tom gives some examples of sustainable packaging solutions that the Topa Group has already achieved. “We develop and test packaging of tomorrow. This is how our Fiber Film wrapping film was created, which requires 50 percent less material for the production process, but still offers better load security than conventional wrapping film." Climate neutral company This green approach earned Topa Group great recognition last year. “In May 2022, we were crowned a 'climate neutral company' for the first time,” Tom says proudly. “When mapping the total CO2 emissions, the group arrived at 1,660 tons per year. We compensated for these emissions by building a wind farm in Brazil. Last year we managed to reduce our CO2 emissions by more than 27 percent, to 1,212 tons. By 2030, we want to further reduce our Corporate Carbon Footprint to at least 55%.” “Our trading activities will also be recertified in 2023. This time we will offset our emissions by supporting a wind turbine project in Chile. Once the wind turbines are built, this project will save approximately 197,420 tons of CO2 emissions per year.”
