New: wider ZeroTape® for larger boxes
“Our ZeroTape® family has been supplemented with a new dispenser and tape since April. In addition to the ZeroTape® Classic and First dispenser of 48mm, we now also have a ZeroTape® Classic dispenser of 72mm. This is so that larger rolls of tape can also be used manually and therefore larger boxes can be closed effortlessly.” ZeroTape®, in combination with the special ergonomic dispenser, ensures greatly improved posture and movement, especially of the wrist. This leads to no less than 75% less strain on the wrist, arm and shoulder and 25% less muscle activity. The result is not only ease of packing, but it also prevents injuries and absenteeism due to illness. This is also the case with the wider dispenser of 72mm. It is slightly larger but still comfortable and efficient to use. The benefits of ZeroTape® have been scientifically researched and confirmed In collaboration with the Department of Ergonomics at the University of Siegen in Germany, the innovative benefits of ZeroTape® were scientifically investigated and confirmed. Compared to other tape dispensers, the study shows a huge improvement with 75% less strain on tense muscles in the shoulder and forearm when using ZeroTape®. ZeroTape® received the prestigious award for ergonomic product development from the renowned 'Ergonomics Competence Network' (ECN). ZeroTape® is a quality tape with a special small core of only 38mm. On the standard ZeroTape® rolls, there can be up to 150 meters of tape on a roll instead of the usual 66 meters. With the new, wider rolls of 72mm, there is 100 meters of tape on a roll. The ergonomic ZeroTape® dispenser therefore contains more than twice as much tape. This not only means more than halving roll changes, but also less storage space and waste. In addition, the special small cores are reusable and ZeroTape® is produced climate-neutrally. With ZeroTape® you make your packaging process more sustainable.

Choosing a supplier: Price-performance ratio: Pay attention to the balance between price and quality. Availability and delivery times: Reliable deliveries are crucial for continuous production. Environmental friendliness: Ask for sustainable films such as recycled or biodegradable. Customer service: Choose a supplier who offers advice and support. Advantages and disadvantages of stretch film: Advantages: Stability, protection against moisture and dust, and flexibility for different pallet sizes. Disadvantages: Plastic consumption and labor-intensive manual wrapping. Savings opportunities: Invest in wrappers: Reduce film usage and save time. Use pre-stretch film: Less film needed for the same stability. Staff training: Efficient wrapping prevents waste. Conclusion: Stretch film is an effective solution for pallet packaging, with smart choices in film and supplier that save costs as well as provide stability and protection.

Papair GmbH partners with Harbour Investment Holding
The innovative startup Papair announces that it has gained Harbour Investment Holding as a new strategic partner to scale the production of PapairWrap, the pioneering paper bubble wrap, and to drive the development of sustainable packaging solutions. Partnership for scaling and further development Papair GmbH has been producing PapairWrap, the bubble wrap made of paper, at its own site in Rethem an der Aller / Lower Saxony since August 2023. The company has developed its own technology and production facility for manufacturing. The innovative packaging material is currently being produced on a pilot plant. In order to take the next step in scaling up and increase production capacity, further investment is required, particularly in machinery and equipment. A leading company as a partner With Harbour Investment Holding, Papair now has one of the leading companies in the paper industry at its side as a strategic partner. In addition to scaling the content of the manufacturing process, the collaboration will also focus on the further development of PapairWrap and other sustainable packaging solutions. Support for expansion and innovation The investment by Harbour Investment Holding will support Papair's expansion efforts, including the expansion of production capacity, the promotion of research and development initiatives and the expansion of its European and international market presence. The collaboration will leverage synergies in production and distribution to accelerate the transition to sustainable packaging solutions, providing added value to customers while reducing environmental impact.

Papair receives first patent for PapairWrap technology
With this grant, the start-up secures patent protection in all participating EU member states – a decisive step for the international expansion of the company. The European unitary patent greatly simplifies patent protection: instead of individual applications in different countries, the property right now applies uniformly in currently 18 member states. This eliminates high translation and validation costs while increasing legal certainty. For Papair, this provides a stable foundation for advancing its planned licensing model for international production facilities across Europe. A central component of the company's strategy is the granting of manufacturing licenses to companies in international markets. Local production reduces costs, lowers CO₂ emissions, and makes better use of existing value chains. This strengthens the company's position as a pioneer in sustainable packaging technologies. The goal remains to replace plastic solutions with a cost-optimized and fully recyclable alternative, thereby contributing to the transformation of the packaging industry.

PapairWrap – bubble wrap made of paper for the first time at the Empack in Dortmund
The Hanover startup Papair will present its groundbreaking product PapairWrap, an innovative bubble wrap made from 100% paper, at this year's Empack in Dortmund. PapairWrap sets new standards in the packaging market with its protective bubbles, flexibility and safety. As a pure monomaterial, PapairWrap can be completely returned to the circular economy. Depending on the manufacturing process, the two-layer version consists of 50-100% recycled material. The first pilot plant has been in Rethem an der Aller since August 2023. The in-house production gives Papair the greatest flexibility in product development. In addition to PapairWrap, bubble bags (PapaiBag) and sheets (PapairSheet) are also produced based on roll goods. In addition, tests are being carried out on water- and oil-repellent surface coatings. The company works closely with customers to develop customized packaging solutions. Another highlight of PapairWrap is the manufacturing process. The bubbles are formed through an embossing process combined with moisture, temperature and pressure. In the subsequent joining process, the embossed paper web is laminated with a smooth recycled web. The product, the manufacturing process and the machine are registered for international patents. Patenting will open up the possibility of producing worldwide by issuing licenses and thereby avoiding long transport routes. About Papair: Papair is an innovative startup from Hanover that specializes in sustainable packaging solutions. With PapairWrap, the company offers an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional bubble wrap. Production takes place in Germany and the company aims to conquer the global market with its patented technologies.

Plastic crates for ice cream storage
Ice cream maker Talamini offers a choice of 42 different flavors every season. On a preparation day, about 25,000 scoops of ice cream can be prepared. In a well-conditioned freezer, the ice is stored at exactly the right temperature of -21°C, so that there is sufficient stock when the temperatures start to rise again. From the ice cream preparation, the ice cream is packed in 5 liter containers, the ideal content for the ice cream parlors. The bins have a conical shape, so that they can easily be emptied with an ice cream scoop. However, the conical ice trays are less easy to stack, so the ice trays are stored in freezer-safe Euro standard stacking crates. The use of plastic stacking crates has several advantages. The crates offer a high carrying capacity so that they can be stacked high. The crates are made of food-grade hdpe, which is resistant to low temperatures. HDPE e is a smooth material, so that the crates can be cleaned easily. At the end of the life of the crates, they can be completely recycled into reusable granulate for the production of new crates. The ice crates have a smooth, closed bottom and are provided with slit perforations on the sides. This allows cold air to circulate through the crates to keep the ice at the right temperature. On the short sides, the crates have an integrated label carrier for information cards, with which the contents of the crate can be easily identified. The 600x400x165 mm crates are handy and offer space for 3 trays of ice cream. With this weight they are still easy to lift. The stacking bins have an open handle on each side, which makes lifting easier. Talamini uses 600x400 mm dollies to move the crates.

Printing on boxes without labels
When raw materials, such as paper, increase, saving is an important topic. For example, packaging machines that make custom boxes are on the rise. Oversized packaging cost more unnecessary paper. But there is more possible to make savings. Printing directly on boxes is cheaper than labeling. Moreover, you are then no longer dependent on increasing delivery times of labels. Sustainability is also playing an increasingly important role. Printers that print directly on boxes and thus save a large amount of labels is a nice addition. The coding techniques to print directly on boxes: Small character inkjet These compact systems encode contactless and print at the highest speeds. Integration into your production line is easy. These systems require relatively little maintenance, dry very quickly and adhere to almost all surfaces. The machines are often used for applying THT data and traceability codes. Large character inkjet Due to the good adhesion, these systems are extremely suitable for printing on almost all surfaces such as foam, steel, concrete and wood. The printers are ideal when the print needs to be visible from a distance. The height of the area to be printed is no less than 127 millimeters per print head. By stacking printheads, even larger surfaces are possible. High resolution inkjet These systems print at a higher resolution so that more information remains legible on the same surface. These machines can print up to 144 millimeters high or with two colors. This is by far the most commonly used machine for printing directly on boxes. Laser coding Laser systems print at the highest speed with the most precision. Laser codes are indelible; this is because the surface of the product or packaging is processed and no ink is added. The background therefore often determines the legibility of the coding. These systems require no consumables.
