When is a UFI code required?
A UFI code is mandatory if your company produces a mixture that is classified for physical hazards or for health hazards. The UFI code must then be clearly visible and legible on the label of your product. The position is not fixed, but the advice is to place the UFI code close to the barcode or the hazard pictograms.

What does the UFI code look like?
Each unique UFI code is made up of the capital letters “UFI” followed by an alphanumeric code of sixteen characters. The code is divided into four blocks and each block is separated by a hyphen, for example “UFI: H563-L90S-R783-J823”.

What does a UFI code consist of?
The UFI code is composed of your VAT number and a formulation number specific to your mixture. Do you use internal formula codes for your mixtures that consist entirely of numbers? Then you can enter it directly in the UFI generator on the ECHA website. In addition, your VAT number is required not to have an overlap in unique UFI codes.

When do you have to comply with the UFI code?
For products for consumers, the UFI code applies from 1 January 2020. While mixtures for professional use must be provided with a UFI code from 1 January 2021 and for industrial use, the date is set at 1 January 2024. It is wise to immediately start preparations. It requires various administrative acts. In addition to creating UFI codes, these must be registered per country, files compiled, processes adjusted and systems set up. Moreover, it is immediately visible if there is no UFI code on your product. So take no risk and get started.

How do you print a UFI code?
With our machines you can easily and quickly print UFI codes on all your chemical products. Depending on your production process, you can choose between print & apply, desktop printers, small character inkjet, high resolution inkjet or laser coding.
