L-iTL is the lab for innovative Technology for Logistics in Ghent. We develop new technology for storage, handling, indoor transport and packaging of goods, from concept phase to practical testing of prototypes. At Empack, we will introduce a high-performance horizontal wrapping machine for automatic damage-free packaging of one or several products. The machine scans the shape of the supplied products. An ai system determines an optimal wrapping pattern and sends this to the servo control system. After wrapping, the products are slid into a shipping box, ready for shipment. Filling materials are therefore not required and damage claims are a thing of the past with this machine. At Empack, we will also introduce the Ecobundel, a concept with accompanying machine for bundling 4-8 bottles using corrugated cardboard. The Ecobundle clamps the bottles firmly together as was done with shrink wrap until now. The cardboard of the Ecobundle can be printed beautifully without any chance of deformation in the shrink tunnel. The machine to apply the Ecobundle around the bottles has a capacity of up to 75000 bottles per hour. All ecology parameters are favourable and even the cost price is competitive.
