EPAL
Many retailers use wooden packaging to safely transport their products. They prefer to use pallets, pallet boxes or crates with standard dimensions for this purpose. With the pallets that are provided with a so-called EPAL coding, they have this guarantee. The dimensions and specifications of these Euro pallets have been established by the European Pallet Association (EPAL). To recognize the origin and type, the pallets have brand marks, or a code. These Euro pallets are also provided with the ISPM 15 marking. The EPAL Euro pallets are exchanged throughout Europe.
IPPC mark
When wooden pallets are exported or imported outside the European Union, they must bear the IPPC mark (International Plant Protection Convention). These pallets must undergo a 'Heat Treatment' according to the ISPM 15 requirement to get this mark. More and more countries are making the requirements of ISPM 15 mandatory for the import of wooden packaging.
