Recycled and biodegradable labels on the rise
Producers are continuously looking for points for improvement in order to produce more sustainably and environmentally consciously. Major ecological steps have certainly been taken in packaging technology. We also see a clear trend towards more sustainable solutions in the field of labeling. For example, labels made from recycled plastic or biodegradable labels are increasingly preferred over regular labels.
Which sustainable labels are there?
Roughly speaking, there are two types of sustainable labels. First of all labels made of recycled plastic and also biodegradable labels. All available in coated or uncoated paper, both thermal direct or thermal transfer and available in a plastic variant. All paper labels also bear the FSC® certificate. This quality mark from the Forest Stewardship Council® indicates that our labels are made from sustainable (cultivated) wood.
What is the advantage of labels made from recycled plastic?
It goes without saying that labels made from recycled plastic are created by reusing raw materials. This gives recycling plants the opportunity to process residual waste into base materials to manufacture new labels. Labels made from recycled plastic are available in an unprecedented number of combinations, sizes and adhesives. This makes this sustainable solution accessible to everyone, because almost all regular labels can be replaced by labels made from recycled plastic.
What are Biodegradable Labels?
Biodegradable labels are made from natural products, such as: potato starch or sugar cane. The water-based acrylic adhesive provides sufficient adhesive strength and makes the biodegradable labels fully compostable. This label is ideal for biodegradable packaging, because that combination is 100% sustainable!
