About us
L-iTL is the lab for innovative Technology for Logistics in Ghent.
We develop new technology for storage, handling, indoor transport and packaging of goods, from concept phase to practical testing of prototypes.
At Empack, we will introduce a high-performance horizontal wrapping machine for automatic damage-free packaging of one or several products. The machine scans the shape of the supplied products. An ai system determines an optimal wrapping pattern and sends this to the servo control system. After wrapping, the products are slid into a shipping box, ready for shipment. Filling materials are therefore not required and damage claims are a thing of the past with this machine.
At Empack, we will also introduce the Ecobundel, a concept with accompanying machine for bundling 4-8 bottles using corrugated cardboard. The Ecobundle clamps the bottles firmly together as was done with shrink wrap until now. The cardboard of the Ecobundle can be printed beautifully without any chance of deformation in the shrink tunnel. The machine to apply the Ecobundle around the bottles has a capacity of up to 75000 bottles per hour. All ecology parameters are favourable and even the cost price is competitive.

parcel packaging machine
The proposed packaging machine is designed for automatic damage-free packaging of goods without the use of void fillers. This makes packaging not only highly durable but also economically competitive.

3S-packaging
3S packaging stands for specific sustainable suspension packaging: suspension: the packaged products are protected on the 6 sides by air sustainable: all materials are 100% recycled and recyclable, resulting in very good eco-scores specific: the wrapping pattern is optimised for each packaging to fix the products appropriately on the cardboard with a minimum amount of film.

advanced retention packaging
Advanced retention packaging ensures that a heavy product with fragile areas can be shipped without transport damage. For this purpose, the product is wrapped on a thick cardboard tray. The tray is made beforehand and adjusted to the size of the shipping box. The shape of the tray and the optimal tensile strength in the wrapping film ensure that the product is not damaged if the box falls: the collision energy is absorbed by the film, the tray and the friction.

Ecobundle
The eco bundle is a packaging for bundling 4-8 bottles in a very ecological way. The bottles are squeezed tightly together by a band made of corrugated cardboard, making them behave as one block. On both sides of the enveloping strap there is a large area for printing product info, brand names, etc. The bottles rest on a flat strip of corrugated cardboard that also serves as an intermediate sheet between the various layers, i.e. when palletising, no extra layer of cardboard needs to be applied after each layer. The handle is also made of a special type of very strong paper, so the entire bundle packaging, including the handle, can be recycled as waste paper. If required, corrugated board and handle can be made water-repellent using a bio-based coating. The packaging can be applied with a specific machine at a speed of 75,000 bottles per hour.

PPWR strongly encourages the use of reusable packaging. The completely newly developed folding crate is compartmentalizable, with dividers also usable to secure damage-sensitive products so that they are surrounded by air. Filling materials are entirely unnecessary. Each compartment is equipped with its own code so that customer data can easily be linked to a compartment. The ideal compartmentalization is calculated by powerful optimization software. The crates can be filled manually or fully automatically using a fast robot. This robot is also linked to the optimization software to ensure the dividers are positioned optimally and the products end up in the correct compartment.
